Helius Announces Broad Support for Broadcast Security Standard

MediaGate Router Integrates Common Interface Standard

LINDON, UTAH—June 28, 2004—Helius, Inc., the worldwide leader in business class data broadcasting solutions today announced support for the Common Interface standard on its MediaGate Router platform. This integration gives customers the ability to use the Conditional Access system they choose in connection with the Helius MediaGate product family.

Conditional Access systems protect broadcasted information from unauthorized viewing by scrambling content. Using smart card technologies, broadcasters can authorize certain receivers to descramble protected content. Conditional Access vendors create unique methods of scrambling and key exchange, while the Common Interface standard provides a set of rules to allow integration of schemes in receiver devices without disclosing unique algorithms.

The Helius MediaGate Router with Common Interface Support will ship with an access slot that customers will use to insert their Conditional Access Module (CAM) and Smart Card. Once installed, the MediaGate Router can then decrypt the DVB channels, receive, route and store the content being broadcast.
